Food & Farmers
Many of us have become disconnected from where our food comes from. Very few of us are independently able to sustain our own food sources. We depend on farmers. Without them, many people would starve and die. Because of deteriorating soil conditions, extreme and unpredictable weather patterns and temperatures, racism, xenophobia, fascist attitudes and actions, harmful U.S. immigration policies, lack of support and financial compensation for farmers, poor economic conditions, and oligarchical greed and power, our farmers livelihoods, and subsequently our food supply, are being threatened. We must support our farmers and do everything we can to ensure their vitality and our food supply. This involves: helping to stabilize the climate through policy and action, combatting racism and hatred within ourselves and the nation, holding accountable and removing from power people who exploit the environment, and ensuring that farmers are well-compensated and that they are able to live in vitality. We must reconnect with and support our food sources. This must be an initiative at all levels of community and government: local, county, state, federal/national, and global.
